Steve Mariucci, nicknamed "Mooch," is a former NFL head coach and current sportscaster known for his successful tenure with the San Francisco 49ers. Born November 4, 1955, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, Mariucci was a three-time All-America Division II quarterback at Northern Michigan University, where he led the Wildcats to the national championship as a sophomore in 1975. He briefly signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League in 1978 but was released after a month. Mariucci began his coaching career at Northern Michigan before making stops at Cal State Fullerton, Louisville, the USFL's Orlando Renegades, USC, and California, where he served as offensive coordinator and later head coach. As quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers from 1992-1995, he helped develop Brett Favre. In 1997, Mariucci became head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, compiling a 57-39 record over six seasons with four playoff appearances and establishing an NFL rookie head coach record with an 11-game winning streak. He later coached the Detroit Lions from 2003-2005. Since leaving coaching, Mariucci has worked as an analyst for NFL Network. He has coached nine Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees and founded the Mariucci Family Foundation in 2011.
