Zeki Demirkubuz is one of Turkey’s prominent film directors. His retrospectives have been shown at the Viennnale, Boston Museum of Art, Toronto Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives, University of Michigan, Film Society of Lincoln Center, Brussels Cinematheque, and New Horizons Film Festival, Cluj Film Festival among others. Fate (2001) and Confession (2001) were screened in the "Un Certain Regard" section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2002. Following The Waiting Room (2003), in which he also played the lead role, he directed Destiny (2006), which tells the prequel story of Innocence; he subsequently directed the films Envy (2009), Inside (2012), Nausea (2015), and Ember (2016).
