Rajendra Prasad (born Gadde Rajendra Prasad on July 19, 1956) is a highly celebrated Indian actor who predominantly works in Telugu cinema. Affectionately hailed as the "Comedy King" of Tollywood, he was born in Nimmakuru, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh, the same birthplace as legendary actor N. T. Rama Rao. He earned a diploma in Ceramic Engineering before discovering his passion for acting and completing a course at the Adyar Film Institute in Chennai. He made his acting debut with a minor role in the film *Sneham* (1977) and navigated years of struggle playing supporting characters and antagonists before finding his true calling in comedy. Prasad's career trajectory transformed when he collaborated with iconic directors Vamsy and Jandhyala in the mid-1980s. He achieved a massive breakthrough with Vamsy's romantic comedy *Ladies Tailor* (1986), which catapulted him to overnight stardom. Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, he completely dominated the comedy genre, delivering an unprecedented string of blockbusters that became cultural phenomena. Cult classics like *Aha Naa Pellanta* (1987), *Chettu Kinda Pleader* (1989), *April 1 Vidudala* (1991), *Appula Appa Rao* (1991), *Aa Okkati Adakku* (1992), and *Rajendrudu Gajendrudu* (1993) cemented his status as a legendary leading man capable of carrying films entirely on his impeccable comedic timing and expressive body language. He won his first Nandi Award for Best Actor for his deeply moving performance in the drama *Erra Mandaram* (1991), proving his dramatic depth. In the 2000s, Prasad smoothly transitioned into playing profound, author-backed character roles, successfully shedding his comedic persona for emotionally resonant performances. He delivered one of the greatest performances of his career as a righteous newspaper editor in the philosophical drama *Aa Naluguru* (2004), which earned him his second Nandi Award for Best Actor. He continued to showcase his extraordinary versatility in critically acclaimed films like *Mee Sreyobhilashi* (2007) and *Onamalu* (2012). During the 2010s, he became a highly sought-after supporting actor in mainstream commercial cinema, winning the Nandi Award for Best Supporting Actor for *Srimanthudu* (2015) and starring in major hits like *Julayi* (2012), *Nannaku Prematho* (2016), *Mahanati* (2018), and the blockbuster comedy franchise *F2: Fun and Frustration* (2019) and *F3* (2022). Continuing his prolific run into the contemporary era, Prasad remains an indispensable presence in Telugu cinema. In 2024, he featured in the global sci-fi blockbuster *Kalki 2898 AD*, the family drama *Sathya*, and the comedy *Bhale Unnade*. His extensive upcoming slate stretching through 2025 and 2026 includes Anil Ravipudi's high-profile action-drama *Sankranthiki Vasthunnam* (2025), the grand period epic *Hari Hara Veera Mallu* (2025), the pan-Indian mythological fantasy *Kannappa* (2025), the spy thriller *G2 (Goodachari 2)* (2026), and the historical actioner *Swayambhu* (2026). Honored with the prestigious title "Nata Kirti" and an Honorary Doctorate from Andhra University for his massive contributions to the arts, Rajendra Prasad's legacy as a trailblazing performer remains unparalleled in Telugu cinema.
