Court reporter Carla von Esken, a single mother of two almost grown-up daughters, reports on the circumstantial evidence trial against a young father. He is accused of killing his daughter. Carla is outraged by the smear campaign in a tabloid newspaper, in which reporter Bölke is particularly prominent. He portrays the defendant as a beast.
